“His pseudonym may be intentionally ambiguous, but what [he] is making is clear: cleverly composed, witty and often biting collages” -Seven Days
Born in the final days of the Cola Wars, Deluxe Unlimited makes traditional, cut-and-paste style collages. He was selected for a 2011 residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. His work has been featured in several exhibitions in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York; most recently in his first solo show “Caution!” at the S.P.A.C.E. Gallery of Burlington, Vermont. His ongoing mail-art project has earned praise, along with a surprise visit from the FBI.
These collages use naive and outdated images to recontextualize and reassess common values. His major hang-ups include commercialism, extinction, mutation, and personal freedom. In observance of the total privatization of American culture, Deluxe Unlimited operates under the auspices of a fictional corporation, and each piece is marked with a slick manufacturing logo rather than a signature. His real name is Ben Peberdy, but don’t tell a soul.
